About Us

The Makelane Foundation was formally founded in 2017 by Thabang Makelane, Ntombe Makelane and Tshepo Makelane. It was started in celebrating the life & works of our beloved and departed mother, Esther Makelane who was a community builder and personified the spirit of Ubuntu within our township in Soweto. The passion to serve our communities and be social change agents is what drives us. We are servants and change makers for those who may lack and be hopeless. We are dealers in hope and it is our ultimate objective to inspire others before we expire through our actions and giving hearts.

Our logo represents, a morning star, which brings new hope everyday, a new opportunity to be better, new partnerships to be created. At the core of the logo is water, which in our terms, means life! a meaningful and purposeful life to be lived by all. Our small actions and contributions, should create a ripple effect and encourage you and others to do the same within your community. You can partner with us and we love to collaborate with like minded individuals and NGOs. Common value and common goal partnerships is what we seek in our partners.

It is also a great channel to positively impact and influence our communities through partnerships and advocacy. Giving back and being responsible human beings is what drives our purpose and passion at The Makelane Foundation.
